wines from the sunny plateau of RheinhessenOur wine estate is located in Zornheim – a village on the sunny plateau of Rheinhessen. It lies to the south of the city Mainz - one of the "Great-Wine Capitals" in the world. We cultivate 18 hectares (45 acres) vineyards in the area named "Niersteiner Gutes Domtal". Here we grow 70% white wine and 30% red wine grape varieties and our most widely cultivated vines are Riesling and Dornfelder. Overall we have about 23 different grape varieties.
The Münzenberger family has been involved in wine production since 1590. In earlier times in addition to wine they also produced other agricultural products. Today´s winery was founded in 1963 by Hans-Walter Münzenberger and since 2002 it is directed by the proprietor Andreas Münzenberger, technician for viticulture and oenology and his companion Marina Becker. The place “Lindenplatz” where our estate is located was historically the center of the village Zornheim.
We manage our vineyards close-to-nature and environmentally friendly and accompany all phases of the wine production. All our wines are produced from our own grapes and are "Gutsabfüllungen" (estate bottled) - that means cultivation, vineyard management, vinification and bottling are in our hands and in the responsibility of the owner (Andreas) who has a professional education. Our ambition is to produce the highest quality and to transfer each vintage in exciting wines - expressive, elegant, with noticeable taste of the “terroir”.
Together with the nature we want to bring out the best from the grape, the climatic peculiarities of each year, the characteristics of the grape variety and from the soil type. Furthermore since vintage 2015 all our wines are vegan produced.
